SirsiDynix Unveils New Texting ILS Feature, and New Headquarters

From

Library automation company SirsiDynix yesterday announced the release of the latest version (3.4.1) of its flagship Symphony integrated library system (ILS), notably adding the ability for libraries to send SMS text messages as “an additional efficient and cost-effective notification option for reaching library users.”

Proactive library text messaging functionality appears to be gaining popularity among library vendors. As LJ reported, Mosio recently announced that it had added new features to its widely used Text a Librarian service, giving libraries the ability to send out texts to subscriber lists or individual patrons who opt in. Mosio CEO Noel Chandler told LJ that a future aim was to provide integration with various ILSs.

Other new features in Symphony 3.4.1 include support for multilingual MARC record holdings and compatibility with the Solaris x86 platform.

SirsiDynix also announced this week that, in a ceremony on December 19, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert will officially cut the ribbon on its new LEED-certified corporate headquarters, the SirsiDynix Technology Centre (pictured). Located near Salt Lake City, UT, the building includes a new customer training center and innovation lab.
