CONNECT WITH LIBRARY JOURNAL

On December 8, 2011, Library Journal presented our first virtual technology summit, Power to the Patrons: From Systems to Services, an online forum to examine what technologies patrons are using, what technologies they want from their library, and how these technologies can help them discover their place and enhance their connection with the library.

The day-long conference focused on public and academic libraries offered a full program featuring keynote speaker Bryan Alexander, senior fellow at the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education (NITLE), chair of the 2010 Horizon Report and author of The New Digital Storytelling, as well as panel presentations and Q&A with thought leaders from libraries around the country. Also throughout the day, the industry’s leading vendors showcased their latest innovations presentations and product demos in our Exhibit Hall.
Key topics of the day included:

  • User preferences, encompassing new data on mobile needs of library users
  • Mobile app development in support of changing cultural needs and expectations of library users, supporting self-service, discovery, access to library collections
  • Technology innovations in self-service that make the patron more self-sufficient, promote ease of access, enhance workflows, and facilitate use of collections
  • ILS developments, projects, activities that offer new, added-value services that have a clear, direct impact on library users
Our Virtual Summit archives provide the same access offered for the live event, minus the live chats with other attendees and exhibitor interaction. You will have access to all presentations, information and handouts that were available at the show, including the Resource Center where you can easily collect and save materials for future reference.

Previously registered attendees are eligible for unlimited access to the archives for three months following the show and will receive an email on viewing the archives once they become available.
