PBS Kids Launches Augmented Reality App

FETCH! Lunch Rush, a new app that uses augmented reality to teach kids addition and subtraction is now available for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Geared for kids ages six to eight, The free app uses the camera on the device to overlay graphics on top of the physical environment as viewed through the camera’s lens.

“Augmented reality is becoming a popular marketing tool and a compelling feature for gamers, but no one has fully explored what this could mean for educating children,” says Jason Seiken, senior VP, Interactive, Product Development and Innovation, PBS.

FETCH! Lunch Rush is a 3-D multiplayer game in which players keep track of lunch orders and features Ruff Ruffman, canine host of the animated PBS TV series FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman.
