ALA Partners with NetGalley for Member Benefit Program

From

Firebrand Technologies-owned NetGalley today announced the launch of a benefit program, in partnership with the American Library Association (ALA), in which ALA members can receive expedited approval and access to NetGalley’s digital ebook galleys.

According to the announcement, members who add their ALA member number to their NetGalley profile will receive the benefit. More than 47,000 professional readers, including more than 7000 librarians, are registered at NetGalley, according to the company. Those readers include reviewers, bloggers, booksellers, and educators, among others. NetGalley’s catalog includes titles from more than 140 publishers.

NetGalley has also launched a new program called NetGalley at the Library, which will use email and social media to allow publisher promotion of upcoming titles to NetGalley members, including library promotions. The company is also conducting an online survey about librarian reading habits and digital device usage, which will remain open until the end of the ALA Midwinter Meeting, which will be held January 20-24. Results of the NetGalley survey will be published in early February, according to the announcement.

Last May, LJ announced that it was accepting review submissions for original ebooks (or “e-originals”) in the romance genre via NetGalley. LJ currently considers original book-length romance ebooks for review, and plans to add book-length ebook originals in other genres, ebook novellas, and nonfiction works. Galleys are shared with LJ editors and reviewers through the NetGalley site.
